Today, the web is full terms, such as simplicity, minimalism and decluttering (of your home and mind). Is this just a trend or is there more to it?
Where does this trend come from?
We are permanently surrounded by advertising. There are great offers in the supermarkets, adverts in the magazines at the doctor‘s, in our daily newspapers and the internet is full of it. Everywhere, we are told what we need in our homes.
Quickly, we are overwhelmed and waste our energy to deal with all the advertising and decide whether we should buy this incredibly cheap offer, or if we do not need this new air freshener, because we have 100 scented candles at home.
What is simplicity?
Simplicity is an attitude. According to definition, a condition or process is simple. It is the absence of complexity. One definition even says it is the absence of luxury.
It is about creating a daily life which is simple, easy.
For me, simplicity is planning the meals on the weekend so I only have to go shopping once and don‘t have to think about what to cook every day, which ends in stress and an unhealthy dinner.
This also means a nice, tidy home, where you feel comfortable. When you don‘t have to spend much time putting your many things from A to B and still wanting more storage space. And that‘s where minimalism comes into play (read more about it in the next post)
Make your decisions early
Planning makes things easier and prevents us from permanent decision making. Did you know that making a decision costs us a lot of energy? We all only have a certain amount of energy for the day and we waste it for questions, such as: Where do I start tidying up? What’s for dinner? What do I wear? Is there anything I have to do today? This way, our energy level is dropping to zero in no time.
If you plan your week ahead, there are not a lot of decisions waiting for you during the week and you can save a lot of energy.
In the next few weeks, I will show you many possibilites how to make your daily life easier.
Wishing you lots of luck and contentment ☘️
